Located around 70km from Centre Point Korat, Wat Ban Rai is simply a place you must visit while you are in Nakon Rathchasima. This community-led temple was established in 1953 as a small monks’ residence and has grown to become one of the most revered temples in Thailand, with many thousands of visitors every year. As the residence of one of Thailand’s highly respected monks, Luang Phor Koon, the temple receives considerable patronage from all over the world, with Buddhist artefacts donated from other places as an indication of the temple’s spiritual standing in Buddhism. The temple complex also features a beautifully designed museum where visitors can view artefacts and learn more about the temple’s history. The atmosphere is further enhanced by a crocodile pond, neat vendor stands and a small wooded area with large shade trees, a real comfort in the summer months. The complex is also adorned with a selection of decorative plants, which enhance the overall aesthetic of the temple and contribute to the peaceful aura you feel as soon as you set foot in the grounds.
