For those with even a passing interest in the Chinese Zodiac, the year of the horse, which cycles every 12 years, is a lucky birth sign to be born under. People born in the year of the horse are seen as adventurous, sociable, honest, strong, independent, energetic and adaptable, all very positive traits. The large population of people in Thailand with Chinese ancestry consider the year of the horse to be a very good year to be born, as the projected qualities, when utilized in the correct proportions, can result in a happy and fulfilling life. The designated horse, from the 17th Feb 2026 to the 5th Feb 2027, is the Fire Horse, which is said to amplify passion, creativity and also drastic change.
Chinese culture plays a big part in Thai traditions and cultural practices, so wherever you are in the country, you are sure to see and perhaps even witness some cultural interactions connected to this auspicious year. If you are in Bangkok anytime around the Chinese New Year and would like to experience the most authentic Chinese New Year experience, we’d recommend heading to Chinatown.
