The surveyor and draftsman for this massive project was an English gentleman by the name of Henry Alabaster, who was held in high esteem by the Thai establishment, as illustrated by his close relationship with King Monkut (Rama IV). Running from the inner moat to Thanon Tok, the road remains an important thoroughfare in Bangkok.
