Those who have lived in Thailand for more than a year will agree with us that April is arguably the hottest month in Bangkok. And we do not mean 'hot' in the metaphorical sense of interesting, or trending, because when it comes to April in Bangkok, Thailand, it gets really... really… seriously... hot.
But amid the heat of April, there is always a remedy, and yes, we think you already know what we're talking about: the Songkran Festival. The festive that we’ve all been waiting for.
However, due to strict pandemic rules and regulations, Songkran activities in 2022 may take a slightly different approach. While traditional activities such as paying respect to elders, sprinkling water onto Buddha images, and giving alms to monks are permitted, some activities, such as splashing water and partying, are temporarily prohibited.
In addition, at Centre Point hotel, we offer activities such as sprinkling water on Buddha images, while on April 12 at Centre Point Chidlom, guests can enjoy super refreshing coconut juice jelly and on April 14th at Centre Point Pattaya, guests can enjoy activities such as offering alms to monks at 7.00 a.m.
Songkran activities in different provinces may differ, such as Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima, where they annually relocate Phra Narai Maharaj from Phra Narai Temple to Thao Suranari (Yamo) Monument for the local people to pay respect, or ‘Wan Lai Festival’ during 14th-17th of April, a local Songkran activity at Pattaya, Chonburi.
Another option for Bangkok residents who prefer to stay in the city is to enjoy the 2022 Bangkok Grand Songkran Festival during April 12 – 14, 2022 at the CentralWorld Square.
Happy Thai New Year!
