Since 1955, Thailand has set aside a special day to celebrate children as our country’s most important asset. National Children’s Day — known as “Wan Dek” in Thai — is a public holiday which is held on the second Saturday of January every year. Families participate in a range of activities held in their towns and neighborhoods all across the country, making it a fun and beloved occasion.
Families visiting Pattaya during this time will find a number of events just for children, as well as special discounts and free entry for children to zoos and other attractions. A national committee works with civic groups, businesses, and government organizations to provide a range of educational and celebratory activities. Here are our recommendations for families visiting Pattaya over the holiday weekend:
Nong Nooch Botanical Park will offer free admission to young children (height between 90 and 130 cm) on Children’s Day to give families an opportunity to visit the many attractions at the park. Walk through the peaceful gardens, see elephants, or explore other areas of the complex like the dinosaur zone.
Kids are also welcome at the Cartoon Network water park, perfect for energetic kids and a cool-off from the hot weather. It’s only a 20-minute drive from Pattaya Beach — where there are also a few special perks for kids. The Hard Rock Cafe, just across the street from the beach, offers a free kid’s meal with every main course just for Children’s Day. Head further up Beach Road to Teddy Bear Museum for lovely displays and plenty of photo opportunities.
City Hall also hosts Children’s Day events on Saturday, with activity tents lining the Pattaya North Road just in front of the city hall building. And if you are looking for a low-key day with family, there’s no better option than a day of sun and surf at Pattaya or Jomtien Beach, or some day shopping on Walking Street.
