Holiday Countdown 2019 Chidlom

Bangkok is welcoming 2019 with the same vibrant energy you can expect all year round! Travelers can enjoy Christmas and New Years events throughout the month of December at Bangkok retailers, malls, and hotels. Though most Thai people do not observe Christmas, events are held for members of the large expat community who celebrate this holiday. New Years celebrations can be found all throughout the city and are a popular event for all.

Shopping

Chidlom is a great spot for holiday shoppers, with several premier and community malls, plus day and night markets, offering the full range of deals and steals. Central Chidlom is your go-to department store offering a range of clothing, cosmetics, toys, and travel essentials. 

Mercury Ville is a funky community mall space with dining options you won’t find elsewhere in the neighborhood. Enjoy one of many Japanese food options here, or pick up the essentials at the optic store, pharmacy, or spa.

While you’re searching for Christmas or New Year’s gifts, stop by the display area at Central World for seasonal selfies. Photo setups include Santa and his reindeer, snowflakes, and a world full of holiday characters to pose beside.

Clubs and Bars

For rooftop dining and scenic views on any night (and especially on New Year’s Eve), Up and Above is a casual-chic venue just a short taxi ride from Centre Point. Within walking distance, we like the craft and international offerings at Beer Republic to start off the night, followed by a stop at MIXX Discotheque.  From the Chidlom area, you are a quick BTS ride to Nana or Sukhumvit for more clubbing options.

NYE Countdown

Central World hosts one of the largest New Year’s parties, which is often compared to the famous celebration in Times Square in New York. Every year, thousands of people gather for the New Year’s countdown in the Central World Plaza and the surrounding streets. Revelers count down to midnight together and and enjoy a dazzling fireworks show in the first moments of 2019. Central World mall also organizes a beer garden and food stalls in the surrounding area so that you can make an evening of it and keep going into the new year.

The Central World celebration is centrally located with easy access via the Chit Lom BTS (skytrain) station. On New Year’s Eve, the skytrain runs on special hours after midnight, which will allow you to travel to the celebration and leave for an after-party or just some well-needed rest!
