Holiday Countdown Events in Pratunam

Bangkok is alive as ever during the holiday season. While some cities become quiet around the end of the year, travelers to Bangkok can expect special events and activities all around the city through Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and into the new year.

Pratunam is your best destination for holiday shopping in Bangkok, with premier malls and sprawling markets offering the full range of selection (and sales) for the New Year. Here are our recommendations for New Year activities in Pratunam:

Shopping

Paragon Mall decorates for the holidays all throughout the month of December, making it a festive stop in the neighborhood. Check out the photo area which has New Year-themed displays, take selfies or post-card style photos to share with family and friends. While you’re there, Paragon is also a great shopping destination for Christmas presents, New Year’s gifts, and souvenirs to take back home. Check out designer brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Armani, or look at mid-range goods at Paragon’s in-house multi-level department store. Paragon also has a large English-language book store for reading on the beach or the plane.

Central World mall is also not far from us here in Pratunam, and hosts winter activities throughout the month of December for shoppers and families. Check out the massive holiday displays — trees, reindeer, lights, and more — both inside and outside of the mall. The Pratunam area also hosts many smaller outdoor markets which will have holiday themes, selling gifts and home goods.

Shopping deals are everywhere in Bangkok at the end of the year — you can’t go wrong taking a stroll around one of the many malls in Pratunam district. You are sure to discover sales on gifts and souvenirs you’ve been looking for!

Rooftop Dining

Nothing is more romantic than a rooftop dinner on New Year’s Eve — or any time of year, really — but the holiday season is the time when Bangkok’s skyline really shines. Fireworks displays can be seen from rooftop venues all across the city. Red Sky Bar is one option in nearby Central World mall. We also like the intimate sofa seating of WALK Rooftop Bar.

The rooftop bar at the Baiyoke Hotel is one of the more exclusive options for a rooftop dinner during the holiday season. It is part of the famous Baiyoke Tower, a popular tourist destination offering a 360-degree viewpoint of Bangkok. Reservations at the rooftop are an absolute must!

Clubs and Bars

Pratunam is not "party central” for New Year’s Eve in Bangkok, but you still have many options at the smaller clubs and bars around the Ratchathewi BTS station. Expat favorites like the Rock Pub will be perfect if you’re seeking a crowd to celebrate with this year.
