Loy Krathong at Thong Lo

The ancient Loy Krathong festival is still one of the most popular and unique holidays that visitors can experience in Thailand. Based in ancient rituals and Buddhist rites, the festival brings hundreds of thousands of people together across the city to release colorful floats on canals, rivers, lakes, and even small ponds and swimming pools.

Loy Krathong is one of our favorite times of the year, and we recommend that our guests at Centre Point’s serviced apartments in Thong Lo take time to experience Loy Krathong traditions. The sight of hundreds or thousands of krathongs is truly remarkable!

If you are staying with us in the Thong Lo neighborhood, you have several options for observing Loy Krathing in the area. Here are our recommendations for the evening of Loy Krathong:

Benjasiri Park is the main area for Loy Krathong celebrations in the Thong Lo neighborhood. The park is located just outside of the Phrom Phong BTS station and has a lake where festival observers float their krathongs. From your serviced apartment, you can take our free shuttle to the Thong Lo BTS station and transfer one stop, or you can take a tuk-tuk, motorbike taxi, or regular taxi for door-to-door transport.

Benjasiri Park is not as popular as locations along the Chao Phraya river but it can still be quite crowded. We recommend arriving early to float your krathong before grabbing a bite to eat or taking a walk around the park.

Another option not far from Benjasiri Park is Benjakitti Park, a less crowded option with a much larger lake to release your float. Take a stroll around the lake, find a spot to sit and watch the celebrations, or enjoy the surrounding neighborhood. Benjakitti is located about 250 m south of the Asok BTS station.

Make it an evening out with dinner and shopping — many restaurants and vendors will have specials for the Loy Krathong holiday. We have some of Bangkok’s best options for Japanese food, like ramen from Kujakudo or the upscale sushi and traditional dishes at Umenohana. Take a stop at one of the boutiques or community malls along Sukhumvit Soi 55 to shop for your krathong, or stop by reception for a complimentary one on the day of the festival.

Loy Krathong is a special occasion, and we look forward to sharing it with you here in Thong Lo. Feel free to contact reception for recommendations and advice on discovering Loy Krathong in Bangkok!
