Dog Cafe at Silom - Big Dog Cafe

There are plenty of reasons to visit Bangkok at any time of year. You might be feeling like you should backpack around Asia. You might be looking at the city as a romantic option for a honeymoon. You might even be trying to plan a family trip to ensure that your partner and children come into contact with exciting new traditions, customs, cuisine, and experiences. Either way, there is an incredible animal cafe in Silom that you should check out.

While there are other animal cafes in the city, the Big Dog Cafe in Silom is known as the “ultimate dog cafe” in the area. It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you are from, you will probably be delighted at what Big Dog Cafe has to offer. One of the great things about the establishment is that you can run into some of the rarest dog breeds in the world at the cafe!

For example, there is a resident Tibetan mastiff that resides at the cafe. For those who don’t know, Tibetan mastiffs were used in Tibet to ward off potential sheep predators, such as leopards, bears, tigers, and more. Solo is one the resident Alaskan Malamutes and might be the most famous dog at the Big Dog Cafe, as you can often see him in international selfies from visitors who stop by to take a picture with the friendly and inquisitive dog.

Chowder the Chow Chow might be famous for his grumpy face, and many believe that he actually resembles more of a bear than a dog. Regardless, he fits right into the cafe, as he loves interacting with people just like the rest of his colleagues. There are also other incredible and unique big dogs to check out such as Casper the Afghan Hound, various Old English sheepdogs, and very rare breeds such as the Russian Wolfhound and Airedale Terrier! If you wanted a friendly place to stop by, get some coffee, and pet some of the most unique dogs you’ve ever seen - Big Dog Cafe is where to go!

Of course, the cafe is a restaurant, as well, and isn’t just here to offer dogs. There is also an incredible menu to keep you coming back, that includes standard Thai dishes such as fried rice, but they also offer off-the-wall cafe dishes such as lasagna and hot dogs, as well.

One important note about Big Dog cafe is that you really are better off making a reservation. This is a big tourist attraction in Bangkok, and as a result the establishment is open in two-hour spurts. This also allows the restaurant to remain as clean as possible.

As if all of this dog action wasn’t enough, guess what? Big Dog Cafe also has a doggy swimming pool where you can watch the canines interact. It is also important to note that there are different dogs interacting with the public at different times. Therefore, if you came for a specific dog, or breed, you aren’t guaranteed that interaction. Either way, dog lover or non-dog lover, Big Dog Cafe is a must-see, at least once!
