Thai Children’s Day 2018

Children are the future of our world. They should always be celebrated and appreciated. Luckily, Children’s Day was started in 1856 and has since grown into an international holiday. This special day is simply held to recognize and celebrate the children of the world. Each country has their own unique dates for the holiday.

This year, Children’s Day in Thailand is held on Saturday, January 13, 2018.

History of Children’s Day in Thailand and Around the World

Children’s Day was started by a revered who dedicated his service to the children of the church. Turkey was the first country to recognize it as a national holiday and it’s now celebrated all around the world. Each country has their own unique date of celebration.

In Thailand, it’s always celebrated on the 2nd Saturday in January. People around the world began to see the importance of children to their society and felt it was only right that they were formally recognized. This holiday, known as Wan Dek in Thailand is used to promote the welfare of the country’s children. This includes child rights, health, education, and much more. It has expanded from just a small church celebration to a major holiday with special events held specifically for children. Many of these events were set up to help them realize that they are a crucial part of the Thai society.

Children’s Day Events in Thailand

Thai Children’s Day is celebrated around the entire country, from the major cities to the rural villages. Everything is about the children on this day. Each year, the holiday is given a special theme and slogan. In 2018, the slogan is “Good children are diligent and crave for learning, for a bright future.”

Children’s Day is so significant that even His Majesty the King gives a special Wan Dek speech. Many of the other government offices and buildings around the country also get involved. They are open for tours and host special exhibitions that welcome all children and their families to visit. It gives the children a chance to see behind the scenes of the people who work in favor of their well-being.

Other special activities include the free zoo entry all day, food tours around the country, and community service events. Kids can visit the Royal Thai Air Force to see military aircrafts or stop by a branch of the Bangkok Bank for free giveaways.

Even with all of the cultural differences around the world, most countries recognize the importance of children to the continued development of their societies. It’s up to the adults to properly educate them and pass on traditions and customs. Also to show them how to live within their communities that will effect positive change in the future. This is the main goal of Children’s Day.

This purpose has remained consistent for the holiday across the globe ever since the very first dedication was held. Thailand has done a great job in preserving Children’s Day and helping Thai children understand their key role in the continued growth of Thailand.
