Celebrate National Children’s Day in Sukhumvit

National Children’s Day — called “Wan Dek” in Thai — is one of the country’s cherished public holidays which brings festivities to neighborhoods, towns, and villages in every corner of Thailand. Children’s Day has been celebrated in Thailand since 1955 on the second Saturday of January. Many families attend specific events for the holiday, and others simply dedicate time to child-friendly excursions.

Bangkok is brimming with special events and child-friendly activities for families. Sukhumvit’s central location means that you can have your choice of outings with your kids on Children’s Day. Here are a few suggestions for the 2019 celebration:

Children’s Day will take over Emporium EmQuartier mall, with special activities and themed play zones that you can explore as you shop. You can also visit the special bit.playground area, which is an interactive space that runs through January 31. The interactive digital projects and graphics bring the natural world to life!

Bangkok Planetarium is another excellent choice for a Children’s Day excursion. Displays are accessible in English and children will love the interactive elements of the Planetarium as they discover space. The Planetarium offers free showings of its star show in Thai, though it is fun and educational even for non-Thai speakers. Take the skytrain to Ekkamai to reach the Planetarium.

If you stay in the Ekkamai area, you can also take your children to Kidzoona and Molly Fantasy, a play center where every day is kid-centered. Ball pits, bouncy areas, games, and a carousel can keep energetic kids entertained. Kidzoona is especially suited for young children, whereas older children may enjoy the Planetarium or a trip to the Bangkok Art and Culture Center.
