Have you ever thought about celebrating Christmas and New Year in Bangkok? If not, now’s the time to start planning a getaway! Pratunam is one of many districts in the city which really comes alive during the festive season. As well as being home to some of the most spectacular stores and cultural hotspots, it’s also a great place to tuck into a traditional Christmas dinner.
Visiting Pratunam at Christmas
Pratunam is a district of Bangkok famous for it’s shopping centres and comes alive at night. While it may not be that well-known for nightlife experiences, there are still plenty of stylish restaurants and bars. Many of the restaurants in the area go all out at Christmas time. Therefore, if you are looking for a different kind of winter wonderland this year, Pratunam is likely to offer you a lot of choice.
What is the Siam Paragon?
If you do visit Pratunam at Christmas time, you will undoubtedly want to take in the decor Siam Paragon. It is here where some of the most spectacular Christmas trees and lights displays take centre stage. Siam is one of the busiest areas of Bangkok, and therefore, it’s hardly surprising local authorities go all-out on the decoration.
There is a large central tree which normally sets up here. Watch the cascading and descending lights displays while you finish off a bit of shopping! There’s also a series of decorated palm trees, too. It’s an intriguing Eastern twist on festive fare that you should really take time to see for yourself.
The Siam Paragon isn’t hard to miss during the winter. You may already head here if you want to take in some of the biggest shops and best deals on the Bangkok high street. Why not sit a while and take in the beautiful lights displays, too?
Christmas Dinner at The Kiwi Pub
As mentioned, one of the most popular haunts for Western tourists in Bangkok is the Kiwi Pub (Sukhumvit Soi 8). It’s a New Zealand-themed bar which traditionally hosts sporting events on wide screens. However, plenty of people also head down here for some festive treats when winter rolls around, as their Christmas dinner is second-to-none in Bangkok.
The Pub is famous for its Christmas dinner spread. Reserve a place at the table, and you’ll have your pick of roast duck, turkey breast, pork loin and more.
While many people will take to Bangkok to try the local food and drink, many more will miss the old standards of home. The Kiwi makes sure to bring back festive favourites to those who may be away from family for the festive period.
Do be aware that the Christmas buffet here gets very popular indeed, so be sure to book ahead!
